Basic Resources

Planet tiles produce resources. There are basic resources, that exist on a tile by nature, like fish on water tiles and grain on grass and plain tiles. A tile needs workers to produce something. Workers can be assigned to tiles that have been occupied by settlements. In the resources screen of a settlement you see all resources listed that settlement can produce and can use sliders to appoint population to it. The bigger a settlement grows, the more tiles it can occupy and send people there to harvest its resources. So don't put your settlements too close to each other, they need space to occupy tiles. Also settlements grow and eat their surrounding tiles. So, when you place your settlements, also take into account that resource fields are being lost when settlements grow.

At the beginning of a nation, settlements start with a population of 1000 and can send workers to every tile next to the settlements tile. By default the game already set the workers for maximum grow.

You can also harvest resources from tiles by creating planet facilities. For example to get metals you need to build mines on mountain tiles and then metal works inside a settlement. Also be aware that mountains have different kind of metals and energy carriers. To build ships, you will need to create a basic industry on your planet to create the parts needed. The first ship you should try to build is a transporter you can use to trade with your neighbor nations.
